THE BEGINNINGS

The Poon brothers started their training in 1982 and later taught in the late eighties to the mid- nineties assisting Sensei Alan Clemens at the Blue Dragon Karate Association. Sensei Alan Clemens was a direct student of Hanshi Hirokazu Kanazawa (one of the first Japanese Karate Master to teach in England) in the 1960s and 70s at the legendary ‘Blackfriars Dojo’. The first student of the Poon brothers was in Italy, Rome in 1990. In 1994, Poon Dojo was established in Stratford where the headquarters still remain to this day.

OUR TRADITION

In addition to being trained and graded by Sensei Alan Clemens the Poon brothers have also trained and been graded by high ranking international teachers including Shihan Chris Rowan (high ranking Goju Ryu master) and Hanshi (Grand Master of old style ‘Koryu Uchinadi’ Karate) Patrick McCarthy who awarded Ko Poon one of his Dan grades (black belt). It is the tradition from these lineages that is continued today at Poon Dojo.
